Why Basic Glass Presets Often Look "Plastic"
Clean digital renders often look fake because real physical glass is never 100% pristine. In reality, glass surfaces have micro-scratches, slight surface thickness variations, dust particles, and reflections of surrounding environment geometry.
Step 1: Adding Surface Imperfections & Grime Maps
- Download high-resolution seamless dust & scratch overlays from our Editing Assets Library.
- Place the texture layer inside your
[Height_Map_Precomp]with blending mode set to Overlay and Opacity at15%. - When CC Glass computes the surface normal, it will introduce microscopic imperfections into the refraction, transforming flat plastic into authentic optical glass.
Step 2: Simulating Environmental HDRI Lighting
Glass is defined by what it reflects. Integrate realistic environment reflections:
- Import an HDRI panoramic image or an urban studio photography background from Raw Clips.
- Apply CC Sphere or Polar Coordinates to warp the image into a spherical reflection map.
- Composite the reflection over your glass card using Screen blending mode, masking it strictly to the card's perimeter bevel with a feathered mask.
Step 3: Refining Specular Highlights with Deep Glow
Pair refractive glass with physically accurate inverse-square light falloff using Deep Glow. This prevents harsh over-saturated white hotspots and creates smooth, creamy highlight rolls off the glass edges.
